Developer Netmarble announced the upcoming Marvel Future Revolution at PAX East 2020, the follow-up to its successful Marvel Future Fight. This time, players will be able to explore an open world using one of eight popular Marvel heroes — wearing a variety of fun and weird costumes — as they battle some of their nemeses. Here's everything we know so far about Marvel Future Revolution and what you can expect.

Marvel and Netmarble have teamed up again to bring an all-new adventure to mobile. This time, take up the mantle of one of four heroes and battle supervillains in an open-world environment.

Development and reveal

Marvel Future Revolution is a collaboration between Netmarble and Marvel that was announced at PAX East 2020. The two have combined to create an open-world mobile game. Marvel Future Revolution is actually the first open-world action RPG that Marvel has on mobile. Marvel notes the name's importance because it's meant to be an evolving live-service title for years to come. Netmarble has a post-launch map planned out that includes new regions, new characters, and new content.

Given the nature of comic books, its ongoing support should come as no surprise to Marvel fans. One of the best things about the universe is that it can reimagine itself and expand with endless possibilities. We don't know exactly what the future holds for Marvel Future Revolution, but Netmarble is certainly prepared.

Story and setting

Written by Marvel's own Marc Sumerak, Future Revolution features its own original story and takes place on what's being called Primary Earth, the place where multiple universes converged after Hank Pym and Tony Stark failed to stop the collision. With this convergence comes multiverse variants of superheroes, who gather together to form the Omega Flight collective.

At launch, its playable characters will include Captain America, Captain Marvel, Spider-Man, Doctor Strange, Star-Lord, Iron Man, Black Widow, and Storm. With heroes, however, come villains. Right now, we know that we'll be battling Green Goblin, Red Goblin, Red Skull, Baron Maredo, and M.O.D.O.K. It's up to us as members of Omega Flight to figure out what these supervillains are up to and put a stop to it before it's too late.

Regions in Marvel Future Revolution include the Hydra Empire, New Stark City, Midgardia, Sakaar, and Xandearth.

Gameplay

Being an open-world action RPG, it will control like you'd expect from console titles. Aside from its main campaign, players will also be treated to a few different multiplayer modes: Blitz/Raid, Special Operations, Omega War, and the Dark Zone. Blitz and Special Operations both support four players, Omega War is 10v10 PvP, and the Dark Zone is a real-time free-for-all combat area that supports up to 50 players. It's unknown at this time if it will support some of the best mobile controllers.

For those interested in cosmetics, each character will have over 400 million (yes, you read that right) unique costume combinations.

Release date

Marvel has revealed that Marvel Future Revolution will hit Android and iOS on August 25, 2021. Players can pre-register for it now on the Google Play Store and receive an exclusive in-game costume.

The hidden cost of food delivery

More posts by this contributor What Studying Students Teaches Us About Great Apps I’ll admit it: When it comes to food, I’m lazy. There are dozens of great dining options within a few blocks of my home, yet I still end up ordering food through delivery apps four or five times per week. With the growing coronavirus pandemic closing restaurants and consumers self-isolating, it is likely we will see a spike in food delivery much like the 20% jump China reported during the peak of its crisis. With the food delivery sector rocketing toward a projected $365 billion by the end of the decade, I’m clearly not the only one turning to delivery apps even before the pandemic hit. Thanks to technology (and VC funding) we can get a ri

Slack’s new integration deal with AWS could also be about tweaking Microsoft

Slack and Amazon announced a big integration late yesterday afternoon. As part of the deal, Slack will use Amazon Chime for its call feature, while reiterating its commitment to use AWS as its preferred cloud provider to run its infrastructure. At the same time, AWS has agreed to use Slack for internal communications. Make no mistake, this is a big deal as the SaaS communications tool increases its ties with AWS, but this agreement could also be about slighting Microsoft and its rival Teams product by making a deal with a cloud rival. In the past Slack CEO Stewart Butterfield has had choice words for Microsoft saying the Redmond technology giant sees his company as an “existential threat.” Whether that’s true or not — Teams is but one piece of a huge technology company — it’s impossible not to look at the deal in this context. Aligning more deeply with AWS sends a message to Microsoft, whose Azure infrastructure services compete with AWS. Butterfield didn’t say that of course
