Leaker Suggests MicroLED Apple Watch Not Coming This Year

The Apple Watch Series 6 will feature an OLED screen like previous models, according to a leaker of upcoming Apple products, suggesting the company isn't quite ready to use its in-house MicroLED display technology in consumer products. Apple reportedly has a secret manufacturing facility in Santa Clara, California where it is designing and producing test samples of displays that use microLED, a technology that will follow OLED. microLED screens can result in devices that are slimmer, brighter, and use less power. The technology isn't expected to reach an iPhone for another year or so, but there is precedent for new screen technologies showing up in the ‌Apple Watch‌ first. When it was introduced in 2014, the ‌Apple Watch‌ had an OLED screen. The technology then migrated to the ‌iPhone‌ X three years later. Apple is said to have been testing prototype ‌Apple Watch‌ models with MicroLED displays since 2017, and rumors have suggested an ‌Apple Watch‌ with a microLED disp

Amazon UK headphone listings defaced with racist images

Amazon's search algorithm has been hijacked by bad actors. What you need to know Earbud product listings on Amazon's online storefront have been hijacked and vandalized. Product images have been replaced with images displaying strong racist language. The results are believed to be the result of a security breach playing off of current political tensions. Searching for AirPods right now on Amazon? Don't. Product listings for search results related to Apple's popular earbuds have been hijacked, with product images replaced by banners showing off strongly racist language. While we have chosen not to embed images of the language used, the message can be seen in screenshots on social media (which we have been able to verify independently). It's not clear exactly how this happened, but all signs point to a security breach aimed at exacerbating current racial tensions in the United States. At the time of writing, Amazon has yet to speak about the breach publ

Editor’s note:   Get this free weekly recap of TechCrunch news that any startup can use by email every Saturday morning (7am PT). Subscribe here . Most tech companies base compensation on an employee’s local cost of living, in addition to their skills and responsibilities. The pandemic-era push to remote work seems to be reinforcing that — if you only skim the headlines. For example, Facebook said last week that it would be readjusting salaries for employees who have relocated away from the Bay Area. But Connie Loizos caught up with a few well-placed people who see something else happening. First, here’s Matt Mullenweg, CEO of Automattic (WordPress), which has been almost entirely remote for its long and successful history. “Long term, I think market forces and the mobility of talent will force employers to stop discriminating on the basis of geography for geographically agnostic roles,” he told Connie for TechCrunch .  Mullenweg went on to detail how the process was still complic

When news broke Friday morning that Britain is looking to propose an alliance of democracies to build a 5G alternative to Huawei , you might think that that was the worst thing to happen to the controversial Chinese telecoms giant this week. In fact, it just caps off a series of fast-moving events that surely makes this one of the most decisive weeks yet in the global fight over next-generation 5G networks. So let’s go back a step. After all, readers who have been following the Huawei debate might recall that not long ago the UK had controversially agreed to allow Huawei to attain up to 35% market share in “non-core areas” of its 5G network. So what was behind London’s sudden about-face? The answer is politics.
