How the iPhone 8 virtual home button will probably work

How could an iPhone work without a home button? We now have some idea. IMAGE: LORIS RAVERA/MASHABLE We now have a good idea how the iPhone 8 will work with no home button Apple is widely suspected to unveil three new iPhones at a September event: the iPhone 7S, iPhone 7S Plus, and the highly anticipated iPhone 8.  All rumors point to the latter being a radical redesign of the device—one that includes and edge-to-edge screen with very thin bezels, which would mean the home button, a fundamental of iPhone design since the first model debuted in 2007, is going away.

While the iPhone 8 isn’t going to be announced until September, this week has been packed with rumors on the upcoming device. And it looks like the display is going to be the main star of the show. Rumor has it that Apple is going to announce three new devices — two new versions of the iPhone 7 and the iPhone 7 Plus, and a new high-end device that could cost more than $1,000. And it looks like the rumors around the display are for this mysterious “iPhone Pro” model.

Wait, what? Apple just released the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus, but instead of looking forward to the iPhone 7, we are talking of the iPhone in August? Well, okay then. Conceptual artists can do whatever they want, and are happy to review the visions of what the future might think looks like. Case in point is a new concept developed by Behance iPhone in August and an artist named "Steel Drake." Actually, it seems to pull some design cues from the iPhone 4, note the rear window, but then takes some of the design changes we have seen since that version. The concept has rounded edges and refined the latest iPhone models iPhone 6 and 6 Plus, while also appearing in mainstream touch technology identification. In addition, we are loving the shoulders, where the antennas are hidden in the form of a decidedly robotic future. Also, gone are the striped antenna arguably deterred from designing other cleanly on the latest models of Apple iPhone, and the camera is again flush
