Real life photos of the Galaxy Z Fold 4 and Galaxy Z Flip 4 leak online

The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4 and Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 4 have leaked extensively over the last few months, ahead of their official unveiling on August 10, but we now have something new in terms of advance leaks: real life photos of the foldable handsets. These pictures were posted by @noh_tech on Twitter (via 9to5Google ) and give us a decent look at these two Samsung smartphones, from a variety of angles, in what appears to be a blue-gray sort of color. As we've already had so much information appear about the foldables, these photographs don't actually tell us too much that's new. However, it's interesting to see in-the-hand shots of the devices before they get their grand unveiling on Wednesday this week. New NAND flash paves the way for super cheap, extra large SSDs

SK hynix has developed new 4D NAND flash with a huge 238 layers, paving the way for rapid and capacious new SSDs , the company has announced. Unveiled on stage at Flash Memory Summit in Santa Clara, the new memory chip is described as the “world’s first 238-layer 512Gb TLC 4D NAND” and is expected to enter mass production in the first half of 2023.  Compared with the previous 176-layer model, the new NAND is said to offer 50% faster data transfer speeds (at 2.4Gb/sec), 21% greater energy efficiency for data reads and a 34% increase in overall productivity. The arrival of the 238-layer product will see SK hynix snatch the record for world’s highest NAND stack from rival manufacturer Micron, whose latest model features a measly 232 layers. 238-layer 4D NAND flash NAND flash is a type of non-volatile memory that features in all kinds of storage devices, from memory cards , USB sticks and portable drives to SSDs for servers and client devices. The general trend in NAND flash deve

Fitbit will soon no longer let you transfer music from your PC

Photo by Amelia Holowaty Krales / The Verge If you’re the owner of a Fitbit Versa, Versa 2, or Ionic, you’ll soon no longer be able to transfer music from your computer to your Fitbit device. In a support page spotted by 9to5Google , Fitbit says it’s discontinuing its Fitbit Connect app, leaving you with only two ways to download music to your device: a paid subscription to either Pandora or Deezer. Fitbit Connect is a companion app for Mac and Windows computers that lets you sync fitness data between devices and transfer music to legacy Fitbit devices. Fitbit has slowly been phasing out the software in favor of its mobile app, as it no longer recommends that users download it on its setup page . But without access to Connect, there’s no way to download music to your Fitbit without a paid subscription to either Pandora or Deezer . On its support page, Fitbit says “you may be eligible for a 90-day trial” of either service, which will run you $9.99 / month for Deezer Premium or $4

Steam is adding support for Nintendo Switch Joy-Cons

Valve continues to expand the range of controllers that can be used with Steam by adding support for Nintendo Switch Joy-Cons as part of the newest beta update. Nintendo Switch Joy-Con support is at the top of the very short list of changes in the Steam Client Beta community update post for August. Not only does the post confirm that Nintendo Switch Joy-Con support has been added, it notes that the support is for Joy-Cons “both individually as a mini-gamepad and combined into pairs”. At the moment, the support is just in the Steam Client Beta. To opt into that you can do so in the ‘Account’ section of the Steam settings menu. Since the beta was released on August 4, Valve has re-released it on August 5, hopefully smoothing out any issues that were being experienced by those trying to connect the controllers. What a joy Of course, it’s not every Nintendo Switch owner that likes the petite, fiddly Joy-Cons. If you fall into that camp, or you’re just trying to figure out how to fi

Warner Bros. Discovery’s streaming plan risks tarnishing HBO’s name

A lot is happening over at Warner Bros. Discovery (WBD) right now.  The company’s newly anointed top brass are canning major movies and TV shows en masse – irrespective of their cost ( Batgirl ) or critical reception ( Gordita Chronicles ) – while the threat of mass layoffs looms gloomily over those who work for its streaming divisions. The restructuring comes as WBD attempts to trim around $3 billion from its operating costs, savings that it supposedly plans to pour back into content creation when its grand ambition – a new all-things-to-all-people super streamer – comes to pass in 2023.  The platform in question will see the conglomerate merge its existing HBO Max and Discovery Plus properties into a single, all-encompassing streaming service that provides “something for everyone in the household”, according to WBD honcho JB Perrette. At present, WBD’s entertainment offering includes, among other networks, HBO, CNN, DC Comics, Discovery Channel, Food Network, HGTV, Magnolia N

Watch out Intel – AMD Ryzen 7000 CPUs could arrive with plenty of stock in September

AMD’s Ryzen 7000 processors are set to arrive on September 15, and that’s a hard on-sale date – meaning the CPUs will be on shelves, and in plentiful quantities, if fresh whisperings from the grapevine prove to be correct. This comes from YouTuber Moore’s Law is Dead (MLID), who claims that AMD will actually have next-gen Zen 4 CPUs ready to be sent to reviewers on August 10. Take some large helpings of seasoning with that, of course, but the point here is that the processors are ready to go out for folks to start playing with and testing next week. So, prepare yourself for a lot more info and leakage on how Ryzen 7000 chips are shaping up in the very near future. But more to the point, this suggests that AMD could actually launch Zen 4 silicon this month if the company really wanted to, at least in a more limited fashion. But the plan, MLID asserts, is to run production for a while and have a “very big high-volume launch” of the entire initial line-up in September. (Those firs
