Best Google Pixel 5a cases 2021

The Google Pixel 5a packs a big battery into a very familiar design, and while it might look a little boring on its own, that's what cases are for: protecting your phone and making it look even better! The limited release of the Google Pixel 5a had me concerned we wouldn't see many big-name, high-quality cases, but those fears were unfounded. We've got the best Pixel 5a cases right here to help you protect your new phone, whatever your tastes prefer.

Sage colors, serene patterns

Caseology Parallax Compatible with Google Pixel 5a Case (2021)

Staff pick

Since the Pixel 5a lacks color options, Caseology has given us the best of the Pixel 5's colors along with its tried and true favorites. The Parallax features a fun cubist pattern across the back that adds grip and style. The bumper here has a new ultra-textured section, but some might find it abrasive.

Grippy and understated

Spigen Liquid Air Armor

If you want grip without a case that glows like a rave, Spigen's Liquid Air Armor is grippy, understated, and skips the carbon fiber accents, so many TPU cases tack on. The sides have a different texture that aids the narrower grip area, and there are slim air cushions throughout the case.

Be bold and sustainable

Google Pixel 5a 5G Case

Google's best known for its iconic fabric cases, but I've rocked this case for the last week, and I'm in love. There's good grip, it's got precise margins around the ports and screen, and the neon accents let the Google G pop. I paired my Likely Lime with a Neon Yellow PopSocket for added flair.

Better for the planet

Pela Compostable Case

On top of being made with fair trade and certified eco-friendly materials, the Pela case is actually one of the smoother cases available for the Pixel 5a. No, I mean it! It's soft but still grippy, and no, it won't fall apart in your hands. Once you're done with the case, throw it on the compost pile, and it'll naturally break down.

Clean and clear

Spigen Ultra Hybrid

While there isn't much color or design to show off on the Pixel 5a, if you're still the type to prefer clear cases — maybe you put decals on them or stick your ID in there to always be handy — the Spigen Ultra Hybrid does clear cases right. The bumper has extra cushioning and two color options: clear or black.

Distinct carry-all

Ghostek Exec

Ghostek's heavy-duty cases can take quite the beating, but my favorite Ghostek case goes a step further by protecting your Pixel 5a and your wallet. The Exec features a detachable wallet so that you can easily carry it all when out and about, then ditch the extra bulk when relaxing at home.

Wonderful texture

Caseology Vault

Google called the Pixel 5a Mostly Black, but I wish they'd picked the same hue as the Urban Gray Caseology Vault. It's an excellent hue, there's a good texture across the back for subtle grip without getting thick, and the sides feel very pleasant in hand.

Protect it all

Sucnakp Case with Screen Protector

This killer combo gives you a nice absorbent TPU case with deep grip grooves and a screen protector to protect that 6.34-inch screen from scratches, scuffs, and chips. So if you need to protect your Pixel 5a on a budget, this is your winner.

Fill and flip

HAII Leather Flip Folio

Available in four colors, this leather folio case can carry your Pixel 5a, your ID cards, and cash with ease. The Folio can double as a kickstand for watching YouTube in the breakroom, and an RFID layer is built in to help keep your credit cards from getting skimmed.

$11 at Amazon

Invisible and indestructible

Ghostek Covert

Clear cases and heavy-duty cases seldom mix, but Ghostek's Covert case series gives you protection while still showing off that ever-so-important Google G on the back. While it's also available in Pink and Smoke Black, the pure, clear one looks much better.

Barely there

Latagui Hard Shell

Ultra-thin polycarbonate (PC) cases like the Latagui won't offer you much in the way of impact protection the way hybrid and TPU (thermoplastic polyurethane) will, but if you just need a case that'll give a little more grip and avoid scratches, this slim case comes in a great blue, green, light pink, and black.

The best Google Pixel 5a cases add style and security

The Google Pixel 5a will likely be the last phone with this particular styling, which has become a bit stale after almost three years. Since the phone lacks pizzazz, it's up to us to add that in with a great case, and both Google and Caseology have brought the color and the style in spades. Google's own case is a pastel and neon gem, which can easily be leveled up with a matching PopSocket.

Caseology's Parallax brings us Pixel 5-like Sage Green and Midnight Blue alongside its iconic pattern and grip, but if that's not colorful enough for you, the KWMobile Fabric case offers up some striking shades as well. You can also go understated with textures instead with the Spigen Liquid Air and its triangular texturing.

While you're protecting the sides and back of the Pixel 5a, make sure you're also protecting the front with a sturdy screen protector. After all, nothing will turn your new phone into a paperweight faster than a shattered screen.

Apple and Meta Reportedly Discussed AI Partnership for iOS 18

Apple has held discussions with Meta about integrating the Facebook owner's AI model into iOS 18 as part of its Apple Intelligence feature set, according to a report over the weekend. Meta launched Llama 2, its large language model, in July 2023, and in April, the company released the latest versions of its AI models, called Llama 3 . The Wall Street Journal reports that the two longtime rivals have held talks about offering Meta's model as an additional option to OpenAI's ChatGPT. The paywalled report notes that the discussions haven't been finalized and could fall through. As part of Apple Intelligence, Apple has announced a partnership with OpenAI that will allow Siri to access ChatGPT directly in iOS 18, iPadOS 18, and macOS Sequoia to provide better responses in relevant situations. Using ChatGPT will be optional, so users with concerns about the technology can abstain and still make use of Apple's own new AI features. Speaking at WWDC 2024, Apple's

Here Are the macOS Sequoia Features Intel Macs Won't Support

When Apple released macOS Monterey in 2021, some key features required a Mac with Apple silicon. The same scenario played out with macOS Ventura in 2022, and then again the following year with the release of macOS Sonoma. With macOS Sequoia set to arrive in the fall, which new features can Intel Mac owners expect to be unavailable to them this time around? Apple says that macOS Sequoia is compatible with the same Macs as macOS Sonoma, but Apple's fine print reveals that certain new features won't work on Intel machines. If you're still on an Intel Mac, here's what you won't have access to. Apple Intelligence Apple Intelligence , a deeply integrated, personalized AI feature set for Apple devices that uses cutting-edge generative artificial intelligence to enhance the user experience, won't be available on Intel Macs. Apple says the advanced features require its M1 chip or later, so if your Mac was released before November 2020, you're out of luck. T

iPhone 16 Pro Models to Adopt 'M14' Advanced Samsung OLED Panels for Improved Brightness and Lifespan

The upcoming iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max will be the first Apple smartphones to adopt Samsung's high performance "M14" OLED display panel, claims a new report coming out of South Korea. According to ETNews , Samsung's "M" series of OLED panels are made for flagship smartphones, while "14" refers to the number of high-performance materials used to produce them. "M14" is the first series of its kind, and the panel is said to have been developed to deliver superior brightness and longevity. Samsung has reportedly placed orders for the M14 materials and is preparing to mass produce the displays in the second half of the year for Apple's iPhone 16 Pro models. Google's Pixel 9 smartphone is the only other device that is expected to adopt the high-performance displays in 2024. A previous report out of China claimed that this year's ‌iPhone 16 Pro‌ models will feature up to 1,200 nits of typical SDR brightness – a 20%

Apple Boosts A18 Chip Orders in Anticipation of High iPhone 16 Demand

Apple is said to have upped its order of next-generation chips from TSMC to between 90 million and 100 million units, following heightened demand expectations for its iPhone 16 series. Last year's initial chip order volume for the iPhone 15 series launch is believed to have been in the region of 80-90 million units, suggesting Apple is anticipating higher demand for its 2024 devices, according to Taiwanese outlet CTEE . The arrival of Apple Intelligence in iOS 18 is expected to boost initial sales of the devices. One of the reasons is that Apple Intelligence requires at least an iPhone 15 Pro to run, which means owners of last year's iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus will miss out on Apple's new AI features unless they upgrade to an iPhone 15 Pro or plump for one of the iPhone 16 models. Last year, the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus were equipped with the A16 Bionic chip – the same chip that was in the iPhone 14 Pro models – whereas the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max f
