'Flight Simulator' developers explain its 'shared world' multiplayer

Image
Last year we got some hands-on time with a pre-alpha build of the next Flight Simulator game in Microsoft's long-running series. While that gave a peek at the game's photorealistic environment and inclusion of information like piped-in live flight traffic and weather data, Windows Central points out a seven-minute video the developers just posted that goes into the game's multiplayer features.

The main mode is a shared world where everyone playing Flight Simulator can potentially see everyone else, relying on Azure servers to provide enough capacity. That includes people flying in the real world, with "most" air traffic accounted for, along with AI that will take over if information from the real plane is lost for a moment.

To play in that mode you'll have to turn on real-time weather as it's happening, however the real-time air traffic can be turned on or off. If you don't want to use the default settings and rules, then turning to "all players…

The Surface Pro doesn't have an Ethernet port, but these accessories do

If you want a solid and stable internet connection, your best bet most of the time is to go with an Ethernet connection. Xbox One Wireless Controller in Phantom Magenta brings the purple passion

Image
This one's for fans of red wine and twilight sunsets. And Xbox.
Microsoft's Phantom line of Xbox controllers are among my favorite Xbox accessories. The hypnotic translucent gradient stylings of the previous Phantom Black controller made it, for me, the sexiest Xbox controller ever made, and I seriously wish they'd make a full Xbox console out of this material.
Following up on the Phantom Black and Phantom White controllers, Microsoft has now produced the all-new Phantom Magenta controller, which is currently available for preorder, with an expected release date of March 17, 2020.

We've been lucky enough to get an early sample of this mauve mistress, and we're bringing you some sexy high-res shots.

Twilight controls For fans of vivid sunsets and red wine, the Phantom Magenta controller is a gorgeous option for Xbox controller collectors. It'll work on the Xbox Series X, too. …

Report claims morale at Microsoft's Mixer is at an all-time low

Image
Let's hope Mixer recovers. What you need to knowMixer is Microsoft's livestreaming platform to compete with Amazon's Twitch.According to a report by OnMSFT, employee morale is at an all-time low.The service is run by a skeleton team now. It's unclear if this report is completely accurate, but Mixer definitely has an uphill climb. Today, a report from OnMSFT said that employee morale at Microsoft's livestreaming platform, Mixer, was at an all-time low. Employees are concerned about the future of the service and there are layoffs taking place there.

You can read an excerpt that illuminates the situation below. There is also a video that shows a manager being rather disrespectful to employees.
Mixer has had a rough few months that involved the original founders leaving the business alongside a general manager and corporate vice president. However, what hasn't been reported is that over the last six months, there have been sixteen layoffs due to budget cuts which h…

Google wants to use Chrome to suck you into virtual reality

Image
Google says it's now time to marry two computing realms: the web and virtual reality.
Its latest version of the Chrome browser includes a technology called WebVR, which lets programmers create websites that present the computer-generated 3D worlds of virtual reality. If you're into VR, you might appreciate the promise WebVR holds for expanding what you can do with a device like a Google Daydream View or a Facebook Oculus Rift VR headset.

That's because, in principle at least, WebVR makes it easier for developers to create a single VR experience that'll work across many VR headsets instead of having to create a separate version for each device. It's an extension of how a single website can span your laptop, Android phone or iPad tablet.

Then he was questioned by police and held in custody for building, what the police as a "hoax bomb."

Microsoft released Windows 10 four weeks ago, and now the company is offering a new update of its update. 14 Million machines has been upgraded to Windows 10 within 24 hours of the version of the operating system the last month, and that figure has now risen to more than $75 million in just four weeks. Microsoft has been the deployment of Windows 10 in the form of waves, such as a free upgrade to Windows 8 and Windows 7 users. Although it is difficult to compare the exact figures between Windows 10 and Windows 8, Microsoft "sold" 40 million licenses of Windows 8 a month after its debut. Microsoft took six months to reach 100 million licenses of Windows 8, and it is evident that the free Windows 10 it is clearly superior to adoption rates.

Torque, Microsoft alternative to "OK Google," now works on Android smartphones

Image
Microsoft this morning launched an app for Android smartphone users called Torque which allows you to shake your phone to search by voice, similar to Google "OK Google."
The difference is that instead of waking up the application with a standard keyword command is shaking motion instead does the trick. Also like Google, Torque issue an "immediate response" including things like details on local flights, stock prices, sports scores, weather, nearby restaurants and more.

Torque itself was actually released in October, but now only supported on certain smartwatches Android. The application is then activated with a flick of the wrist. However, smartwatches remain a niche market, so it makes sense for Microsoft to expand its support for smart phones as well. (The original application has been discharge 10,000 times, to give you an idea.)

Version 2.0, now Google Play, also includes some more immediate responses, including flight status reports and information about loc…

How to install Windows 10 Technical Preview Now

Image
Prior to installation
There are a couple of caveats to keep in mind before doing anything:

Backup your data first! Not that you had no excuse not anyway, but make sure to back up your data before upgrading if you have something that can not be recovered. Or even if it does not. Just do a backup. You will not be able to use the recovery partition to downgrade. If you have a recovery partition on the system, which will no longer be able to restore your computer to the Windows version you had before.Recovery will support external Rollback. As is expected, since it has a recovery partition, you need a floppy or USB with Windows 8 (or more) on it to go back to how things were, if you do not like or can not use Windows 10.
Microsoft As mentioned several times, this is a pre-release software and is expected to be very buggy and crash-prone probably. It is not recommended that you install this on your computer at work or anything that needs daily use. We will show you how to install it on a sp…

Microsoft In Talks To Buy Shoutcast And Winamp From AOL

Image
Looks like the llama may not get off so easily after all. AOL yesterday announced that it was shutting down Winamp, media playing software for Windows and Android devices that it picked up through its 1999, $80 million acquisition of Nullsoft in 1999. But today Techcrunch has learned that AOL is talks with Microsoft to sell Winamp, along with Shoutcast, a media streaming service also developed by Nullsoft. We have also learned that AOL has been planning to announce the closure of Shoutcast next week.
AOL has declined to comment for this story, and we are still waiting to hear back from Microsoft with a response. From what we understand, the deal is not yet finalized, with AOL and Microsoft still working out the price. It could also be very wishful thinking from those intent on trying to save both services.
AOL did not give any guidance yesterday on what would happen with Shoutcast.

If this is correct, it would represent an interesting, and strange, twist in the story.
