How long will Amazon Prime Day 2020 last?

If you were to just judge it by the name, one would assume Amazon Prime Day 2020 would last for just 24 hours, a full day, but that's not the case. The first few years, Amazon stared the event in the morning, and ended it at night, but three years ago the event spread to a 30 hour span, and then two year it was 36 hours. In 2019, the Prime Day event spanned a full 48 hour period, and it's likely that we will see the same happen in 2020. Back in 2017, Amazon reserved the first few hours of the event to offer exclusive deals for Voice Shoppers only. This meant you had to have an Echo device in order to order the items via an Alexa voice command, but last year there was no exclusive period for that. As the event gets bigger, Amazon stretches it to last longer and longer. Last year the company boasted millions of deals throughout the span of Prime Day , and there's no way we could see them taming that down any. We will be updating this as soon as we hear more official in

Will Amazon Prime Day 2020 be a disappointment?

It's no secret that some people just love to hate Prime Day. Do their opinions have any basis in truth? With the sixth annual Prime Day likely to take place in September, here's a bit of my experience. I'll be the first to admit that I was disappointed by the first and second Amazon Prime Day . The Internet exploded with much-justified outrage after each one, and I was part of the mob. Amazon's first Prime Day was basically a garage sale, with too many items to choose from and not enough inventory. It was clunky, confusing, difficult to navigate, and frustrating. The few deals I did want to buy sold out within seconds. I was disappointed, partially because I hadn't secured a slew of packages, but mostly because I expected more from the supersized retailer. The second year was slightly better, but more of the same. I didn't make a single purchase on Prime Day 2015 or 2016. In 2017, Amazon learned from its mistakes. I was fully prepared and bracing myself

Toyota’s first plug-in hybrid RAV4 Prime priced a skosh under $40,000

When Toyota unveiled the 2021 Toyota RAV4 Prime in November, the vehicle garnered a lot of attention because it achieved two seemingly conflicting goals. It was Toyota’s most fuel efficient and one of its most powerful vehicles . Now, it’s getting praise for managing a base price under $40,000. Toyota said Friday that the standard trim of the plug-in vehicle, the RAV4 Prime SE, will start at $39,220,  a price that includes the mandatory $1,120 destination charge. This plug-in RAV4 will have an all-wheel drive, sport-tuned suspension. When in pure EV mode it has a manufacturer-estimated 42 miles of range — putting it ahead of other plug-in SUVs. Toyota said it has a also has up to a manufacturer-estimated 94 combined miles per gallon equivalent. We’re still waiting on official EPA estimates. The vehicle has a tuned 2.5-liter, four-cylinder gasoline engine and when combined with the electric motors will deliver 302 horsepower and be able to travel from 0 to 60 miles per hour in a pro

Update your billing and shipping information This may seem like an obvious one, but it's easy to have your Prime account get cluttered up with extra shipping addresses and credit cards. This can slow you down, and even if it's just a matter of seconds, it may be the difference between securing a deal and missing out on it. Be sure to delete any expired credit cards or ones that you don't use anymore, and do the same for shipping addresses. If yo

Amazon Prime Video to globally premiere 7 Indian movies as theaters remain closed

Amazon has secured rights to premiere seven Indian movies that were initially scheduled for a theatrical release directly on its Prime Video on-demand streaming service in a move that has prompted two major movie theater chains to express “extreme displeasure” and “disappointment.” The e-commerce giant, which is reportedly in talks to buy AMC theater chain, said on Friday that it will release these movies, which include “Gulabo Sitabo” starring Indian legend Amitabh Bachchan and Ayushmann Khurrana, and “Shakuntala Devi” featuring Vidya Balan as lead, over the next three months starting with May. Prime Video subscribers won’t have to pay an additional fee to access these movies, which span five Indian languages, the company said. Other “highly anticipated” titles are Tamil drama “Ponmagal Vandhal”, “Penguin” (Tamil and Telugu), “Law” (Kannada), “French Biryani” (Kannada), and “Sufiyum Sujatayum” (Malayalam). The move comes as India maintains a nationwide lockdown that has left mo

Balderton Capital backs Primer, a fintech helping merchants consolidate the payments stack

Primer , a U.K. fintech that wants to help merchants consolidate their payments stack and easily support new payment methods in the future, has quietly raised £3.8 million in funding. Leading its £3.2 million seed round is Balderton Capital — which mostly does Series A — with participation from Taavet Hinrikus, who co-founded and previously led TransferWise. And despite being founded as recently as January and not yet launched, Primer had already raised £600,000 in pre-seed investment from Seedcamp, Speedinvest and Kima, in addition to a number of unnamed angels. Founded by ex-PayPal employees – via PayPal’s acquisition of Braintree — Primer is busy building out a payments API to (hopefully) rule them all, with the explicit aim of bringing greater transparency to a merchant’s payment stack. The thinking is that larger merchants, especially those that operate in more than one geography, have to support an array of payments methods, which brings with it significant technical overhe

How to watch Upload: Stream Amazon Prime's latest show from anywhere

If you were given the choice between death or living out the rest of your days in a virtual afterlife, which would you choose? This is the premise of Upload, the latest TV series from the creator of The Office and Parks and Recreation , Greg Daniels. Upload is set in the year 2033 where people who are near death can be "uploaded" into virtual reality hotels run by six of the world's biggest tech firms. The show stars Robbie Amell who plays a young app developer named Nathan who ends up in the hospital after a self-driving car accident. At the hospital, his shallow girlfriend Ingrid (played by Allegra Edwards) convinces him to be uploaded to her family's luxurious virtual afterlife at the Horizen company's "Lakeview". After being uploaded to Lakeview, Nathan meets his customer service "Angel" Nora Anthony (played by Andy Allow) who serves as his concierge and guide to the virtual afterlife. However, the two quickly become friends and Nora,

With kids and adults staying at home, are virtual worlds ready for primetime?

We’ve been diligently following the development of virtual worlds, also known as the “metaverse,” on TechCrunch. Hanging out within the virtual worlds of games has become more popular in recent years with the growth of platforms like Roblox and open-world games like Fortnite, but it still isn’t a mainstream way to socialize outside of the young-adult demographic. Three weeks ago, TechCrunch media columnist Eric Peckham published an in-depth report that positioned virtual worlds as the next era of social media. In an eight-part series, he looked at the history of virtual worlds and why games are already social networks ,  why social networks want more gaming ,  what the next few years looks like for the industry  and  why isn’t it mainstream already ,  how these virtual worlds will lead to healthier social relations ,  what the future of virtual economies will be  and  which companies are poised for success  in this new market. Given all that has changed in just the last three wee
