Netflix's account-sharing crackdown gets a little less painful

As part of its continued push to combat password sharing, Netflix has introduced the option to transfer user profiles to new accounts.  The new feature, suitably-titled Profile Transfer, lets you move your viewing history, watchlist and personalized recommendations to a different Netflix account, should you find yourself moving from your current household. “People move. Families grow. Relationships end. But throughout these life changes, your Netflix experience should stay the same,” Netflix said in a statement announcing the feature.  The streaming service had been testing Profile Transfer in South America, but the feature has now (as of October 17) begun rolling out to subscribers across the US and UK.  You’ll be notified by email as soon as the option becomes available on your account, at which point you’ll need to launch Netflix, hover over your profile icon in the dropdown menu and follow the on-screen instructions.  On the face of it, this is a helpful move for anyone who’

Fortnite’s Halloween update will turn you into a werewolf

Image: Epic Games Spooky season has arrived in Fortnite . The game’s most recent patch has ushered in Fortnitemares, the annual Halloween event, and it includes the ability to turn into a werewolf. As part of the update, there’s now a DJ hanging out at the Reality Tree, and players can perform a ritual to get access to an item called “howler claws” that results in the werewolf transformation. (If you don’t play Fortnite , I promise that sentence actually makes sense.) With the claws equipped, you’ll have a sense ability to find other players, a new melee attack, and a double jump. It sounds similar to the wraith-like abilities from 2020 . Elsewhere, the update also brings a new Zero Build version of the classic horde rush mode, the return of Halloween-themed items like candy and a pumpkin launcher, and a handful of quests to unlock free in-game items. Fortnitemares runs from now until November 1st. Fortnite kicked off its latest season a month ago , and it includes new feat

SASE adoption set for major rise, but some still don't know what it is

The adoption of Secure Access Service Edge ( SASE ) among businesses has “skyrocketed” during the pandemic, according to a report from Versa Networks. Polling 500 security and IT decision makers from the US, UK, France and Germany, the firm discovered that more than a third of businesses (34 percent) have adopted SASE in the past year, with an additional third (30 percent) planning to do so within the next twelve months. What’s more, SASE has overtaken VPN as the preferred means of connectivity. During the pandemic, organizations across Europe sought seamless security and high-performing, reliable connectivity, both in cloud, hybrid and on-prem networks, mostly due to employees complaining about dropping connections, bandwidth-heavy applications and the lack of tech support. IT pros also struggled to enforce security policies, as well as to spot new cyber-threats that target their employees. SASE as a solution Many companies found a solution to these problems in SASE, but there’s

Ticketmaster security breach - the industry speaks

Ticketmaster has revealed it has suffered a major security breach after being hit in a cyber-attack last night. Thousands of UK customers may be affected by the breach, which was reportedly caused by malicious software on third-party customer support product Inbenta Technologies. We spoke to some of the security industry’s leading minds to find out their opinions on the attack. Allen Scott, consumer EMEA director, McAfee : “Like so many businesses who fall victim to data breaches, Ticketmaster has been slow to respond and put right this wrong. To win the battle against online fraud, we need businesses to join forces and support one another in identifying and responding to security threats. For any Ticketmaster customers concerned about the security of their personal information, there’s a few simple steps they should take immediately. Firstly, they should change their passwords straight away. We know it’s hard to remember all your passwords but using a password generator and mana

UK businesses set to get connectivity boost as SSE unbundles BT exchanges

UK businesses are set to receive a major connectivity boost, courtesy of SSE Enterprise.  The company is set to unbundle 177 BT Exchanges to cope with an increased demand for high-capacity fibre connectivity. In that respect, the deployment will double SSE Enterprise Telecoms’ network reach, unlocking a further 180,000 UK business post codes. Potential network of 100Gbps The company also said that by unbundling the exchanges, SSE Enterprise Telecoms will ‘futureproof its offering’, with a network capable of delivering 100Gbps. Three will be the first service provider to benefit from the enhanced network footprint, to underpin their 5G ambitions. “We have always placed great pride in our network and ensuring that it is in the best possible shape to serve our customers both now and in the future,” said Colin Sempill, managing director of SSE Enterprise Telecoms.  Read more > EU plots €6bn satellite network to boost connectivity > FCC proposes major boost in minimum bro

Nvidia’s embarrassing RTX 4080 ‘unlaunch’ could cost it dearly

The Nvidia RTX 4080 12GB graphics card has been ‘unlaunched’, and will now likely release under a new name at some point. We’re not exactly sure when we might see the rebranded RTX 4080 12GB, but we do expect it to appear as a RTX 4070 Ti at the least.  Of course this is a very sudden (and embarrassing) move from Nvidia so soon to the proposed launch date, but it does lead us to a very important question; what happens to all those boxes? An abrupt overhaul of the name leaves manufacturers with loads of branded packaging that's now completely unusable.  However, two board partners have confirmed to Youtuber Gamers Nexus that Nvidia is willing to compensate them for costs of destroying packing already made up for the RTX 4080 12GB GPUs. Analysis: Waste and Worry The RTX 4080 12GB is a GPU Nvidia probably wants to forget, and the destruction of packaging is only a small part of the rebrand procedure. If partners have placed the GPUs in boxes ready for shipment, all that wil

Sorry Apple: a Samsung exec thinks OLED displays aren’t good enough for AR glasses

A Samsung Display executive doesn’t believe that OLED displays are good enough for augmented-reality glasses, which could be bad news for Apple if rumors that it’s working on AR glasses are accurate. At a recent industry event, Samsung Display group leader Kim Min-woo explained that the best VR headsets (like the Oculus Quest 2 ), and AR glasses like the long-rumored Apple Glasses require different displays to suit their particular applications (via The Elec ). Because AR devices enable the wearer to interact with the real world around them, their displays need to be brighter.  OLED pixels aren’t backlit so they are darker than LED pixels, because of this, users wearing the glasses won’t be able to see their glasses’ heads-up display (HUD) in bright conditions. Beyond being brighter, because OLED screens would need extra protective layers to ensure water and other particles don’t ruin their organic parts they’d have to be thicker and heavier than LED panels made from inorganic co
