Some of the world's biggest firms have been hit multiple times by hackers this year alone

A third of organizations have been hit with multiple cyberattacks this year, often resulting in the compromise of customer data.  A new report from cybersecurity experts Trend Micro, which claims businesses are struggling to defend an attack surface that just keeps getting bigger.  Surveying more than 4,100 businesses across North America, Latin America, Europe, and Asia-Pacific, the researchers concluded that the level of risk grew significantly between H2 2021, and H1 2022. It found the number of firms expecting to be successfully hit rose from 84% to 90% compared to H1 2021, while the number of those expecting to be compromised over the coming year grew from 76% to 85%.  Complex IT environments For Jon Clay, VP of threat intelligence at Trend Micro, hybrid working is making life difficult for IT departments everywhere.  "You can't protect what you can't see. But with hybrid working ushering in a new era of complex, distributed IT environments, many organizations a

Ubisoft games are back on Steam – and that’s great news for the Steam Deck

Ubisoft games are returning to Steam , starting with Assassin’s Creed Valhalla which will become available at the start of December. As Eurogamer reports, Assassin’s Creed Valhalla is set to launch on Steam come December 6, after previously only being available via the Epic Games Store (and Ubisoft’s own storefront). There are other Ubisoft games coming back to the fold of Steam, too, and that includes Anno 1800 and the free-to-play offering Roller Champions, although those titles aren’t yet up on the Steam store ( whereas Valhalla is ) and there’s no indication of when they might arrive yet. Presumably we won’t be waiting long. Ubisoft told Eurogamer : “Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, Anno 1800 and Roller Champions are among the Ubisoft titles that will be releasing on Steam.” So, we can hope that more games are coming to Valve’s platform soon, other than those mentioned titles. Analysis: Advantage Steam Deck owners This is a positive step forward to allow more choice of gaming pl

Nvidia’s rumored plan for budget GPUs doesn’t involve the RTX 4060

Nvidia is set to phase out the older and slower variant of its RTX 3060 Ti graphics card, and will only sell the newer 3060 Ti with faster video memory, if the rumor mill is right – with potential ramifications therein for Team Green’s mid-range GPU strategy, and the RTX 4060 (we’ll come back to that). First off, let’s look at the rumor itself, which comes from a regular source of speculation in China, MyDrivers (as flagged by VideoCardz ). The source claims that third-party graphics card manufacturers are now in the process of gradually – but assuredly – getting rid of the original, slower version of the 3060 Ti. If you recall, the faster variant that’s purportedly being kept on is only different in terms of the VRAM – the new 3060 Ti has 19Gbps GDDR6X memory , compared to 14Gbps GDDR6 for the old card. That makes for a major bump in memory bandwidth from 448GB/s to 608GB/s (the loadout of 8GB of VRAM remains the same, by the way, as do all the other specs of these respective gra

Microsoft’s embarrassing Windows 11 printer fail finally gets fixed – but is it too late?

Microsoft has officially marked a frustrating printer bug as resolved, and those folks who were being blocked from upgrading to Windows 11 22H2 due to the compatibility issue will doubtless be pleased to hear that. You might recall this seriously troublesome bug that emerged in late September 2022 , forcing printers to revert to their default settings. By default, many important features weren’t available – we’re talking about printing in duplex, higher resolutions, and maybe even color, which could obviously be major stumbling blocks. The good news is that as Neowin spotted, Microsoft officially marked the issue as resolved just a few days ago (November 18). In actual fact, the safeguard blocking devices which could run into this bug was removed a week previously – therefore allowing those machines to update to Windows 11 22H2 – though it could still take some time for the upgrade to come through. At this point, though, any machine with a connected printer that could fall prey

Mastodon will lose to Hive as the 'next Twitter' if it doesn't fix 3 big problems

Since Twitter CEO Elon Musk took over the social media platform, users have been flocking to alternatives such as Mastodon to see if they could be suitable replacements for Twitter. Users have been moving away for a variety of reasons, such as Twitter's subscription service  Blue being made available for $8 / £7 / AU$9  and offering Blue Ticks to subscribers, before hastily being taken away after a few days, and an increasing number of bugs plaguing users, such as the app crashing, and images refusing to load, which I've been experiencing lately. Hive has recently been touted as another alternative, looking like a cleaner version of Mastodon's official app, and it comes with some nice additional features, such as the ability to add music to your profile. Yet there's something about Mastodon's community that keeps pulling me back to that social media platform and trying out the different third-party apps that developers have been working on to make it more use
